China Post Issues – 2022

Issues 13 — 20, June to September.

2022-13: China Post issued special stamps entitled Hydropower Development on Jun 28, 2022. Jointly planned by China Post and China Three Gorges Corporation, this set of stamps consists of two designs: Wudongde Hydropower Station and Baihetan Hydropower Station. The denomination of each stamp is 1.20 yuan.

Hydropower Hydropower

Wudongde Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River at the junction of Luquan county in Yunnan and Huidong county in Sichuan Province. It is the seventh largest hydropower station in the world and the fourth largest in China. Its first electricity-generation units were put into operation on June 29, 2020, and all units became fully operational on June 16, 2021. Baihetan Hydropower Station, the second design, is also located on the Jinsha River but at the border of Ningnan county in Sichuan and Qiaojia county in Yunnan. It began generating power on June 28, 2021, and was completed in 2022. It is the world's second largest hydropower station after the Three Gorges Dam. Together with Xiluodu Hydropower Station, Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station, the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam, they constitute the world largest clean energy corridor, and provide strong momentum for the green development of China's economy and society.

This set of stamps uses horizontal and vertical formats, depicting the dams when they are open to discharge water. The stamps take turquoise as the main color. This set of stamps wss printed with offset technology by the Anti-counterfeit and Secret-keeping Technology Printing Company of Henan Province. Nine-color offset printing combined with surface treatment technology makes the picture look multi-dimensional. This is the first time China Post has printed a QR code with traceable information on a sheet of stamps. This will facilitate information sharing and help philatelists learn more about the stamps.

The designer for this issue was Guo Zhenshan. Design One is 50 x 30 mm perf 13, Design 2 is 30 x 50 mm, perf 13.5. Sheets contain 12 stamps, six of each design

2022-14: China Post issued one commemorative stamp on July 23, 2022 for the centenary of the adoption of the first Constitution of the Communist Party of China. The denomination of the stamp is 1.20 yuan.

Constitution

The Second National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in Shanghai from July 16 to 23, 1922. Twelve delegates attended the congress, representing the 195 CPC members nationwide. The congress adopted the first Constitution of the Communist Party of China. There is now only one copy in existence, stored at the National Archives Administration of China.

The stamp was designed by Zhang Fan using graphic design and hand-drawn sketching. Features of the design include the Party emblem, selected chapters of the first Party Constitution and the site of the Second National Congress of the CPC. There is a fluttering Party flag as the background. The stamp was printed by Beijing Stamp Printing House Company Limited with offset technology. Stamps are 50 x 30 mm, perforation:13. Twelve stamps are on each sheet.

2022-15: China Post issued one special stamp for China National Archives of Publications and Culture on July 30, 2022. The denomination of the stamp is 1.2 yuan.

National Archives

The China National Archives of Publications and Culture coordinates and promotes the collection, utilization, inheritance and development of Chinese bibliology resources. CNAPC comprises one headquarters in Beijing and three branches in Xi'an, Hangzhou and Guangzhou. Together, these archives serve as a general database of national bibliology resources.

The stamp was designed by Shi Yuan. The stamp image is axisymmetric. It takes Wenhan Pavilion — the core building of CNAPC Beijing headquarters as the main body, and turquoise landscape painting as visual elements, which gives the image the charm of traditional Chinese paintings. It was printed by Beijing Stamp Printing House Company Limited with photogravure technology. Each stamp measures 50 mm x 30 mm and is perfed 13. There are twelve stamps on a sheet.

2022-16: Ancient Seals Date of issue: August 5th, 2022. There are four designs in the set denominated at 1.2 yuan each. The designer was Rong Tie. Stamps are 30 x 60 mm, perforated 13.5 x 13. The sheets have two different layouts. Sheet 1 has 12 stamps and there are 8 in Sheet II printed on rice paper. Sheet 1 is 150 x 210 mm and Sheet II is 200 x 150 mm. Printing was done using Offset at Henan Provincial Post Printing Works.

The four designs are: 16-1: seal of Waisilu - Warring States Period (475 BC – 221 BC), 16-2: Yiyangjin Seal - Qin Dynasty (221 BC – 206 BC), 16-3: seal of Prince Shuoning's Mother - Han Dynasty (202 BC – 221 AD) and 16-4: seal of the Palace Secretariat - Tang Dynasty (618 AD – 907 AD).

2022-17: August 13th, 2022 Qinqiang Opera. There are three values in this set, each with a face value of 1.20 yuan. The stamp designers were Lu Jienan and Guo Xianlu. Each stamp measures 44 x 33 mm and is perfed 13. There are 12 stamps in a sheet sized 165 x 180 mm. This set was printed with Photogravure at Beijing Postage Stamp Printing Works.

The three designs are: 17-1: The flame steed, 17-2: Three drops of blood and 17-3: A tour of West Lake. Qinqiang opera is a folk opera style which originated in Shaanxi province (central China) in 1807. It is also known as Bangzi Opera from the name of the wooden clappers that are one of its main characteristics.

2022-18: September 3rd, 2022 Another issue in a series featuring Chinese animation. This one features Mr. Black in a set of 5 designs. The character is probably better named Black Cat Detective. The first two are valued at 0.80 yuan, last three at 1.20 yuan. The stamp’s designer was Shang Ying. Each stamp is 50 x 30 mm with perforation of 13. A sheet consists of 10 stamps, 2 sets of 5 in vertical columns. Each sheet measures 130 x 195 mm. Stamps are printed with photogravure at Beijing Postage Stamp Printing Works.

Animation - Mr.Black Animation - Mr.Black Animation - Mr.Black Animation - Mr.Black Animation - Mr.Black

The five designs are: 18-1: Subduing the robbers, 18-2: Capturing the eagle, 18-3: Protecting home, 18-4: Fighting shoulder to shoulder, 18-5: A total win. Black Cat Detective was an animated TV series of five episodes broadcast on CCTV from 1984 – 1987. An animated full-length film based on the series was released in China in 2015.

2022-19: September 5th, 2022 Ancient Tiger artifacts. There are six designs in the set. Each one has a face value of 1.2 yuan. The designer was Wang Huming. Stamps measure 40 x 30 mm and are perfed 13. Each sheet has 12 stamps and measures 192 x 122 mm. The stamps were printed using Offset and Engraving for the first value, all the others using offset only, by Henan Provincal Post Printing Works.

The six designs are: 19-1: Double-tailed Bronze Tiger Carrying a Bird on the Back - Shang Dynasty (1600 BC-- 1045 BC), 19-2: Tiger-shaped Jade Ornament - Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC – 481 BC), 19-3: Eave-end Tile with White Tiger Pattern - Han Dynasty (202 BC-- 220 AD), 19-4: Gold-inlaid Inscribed Bronze Tiger Tally - Han Dynasty (202 BC-- 220 AD), 19-5: Crouching Tiger-shaped White-glazed Porcelain Pillow with Brown Decorative Patterns from the Cizhou Kiln - Jin Dynasty (1115 AD – 1234 AD), 19-6: Flying Tiger-shaped Shadow Puppet - Qing Dynasty (1636 AD – 1912 AD).

2022-20: China Post issued a set of 4 commemorative stamps entitled Modern Chinese Scientists (Series 9) on September 7, 2022. The images on the stamps are Liu Dongsheng, Cheng Kaijia, Wu Wenjun and Yuan Longping. The denomination of each is 1.20 yuan.

Liu Dongsheng (1917-2008), geologist and senior academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, made lots of achievements in China’s vertebrate paleontology, Quaternary geology, environmental science and environmental geology, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and polar exploration and other scientific research fields, especially in loess research.

Cheng Kaijia (1918-2018), physicist and one of the pioneers of China’s nuclear weapons research, made outstanding contributions to the development and testing of nuclear weapons. He published the first monograph on solid state physics in China.

Wu Wenjun (1919-2017), mathematician, made great achievements in the fields of topology and mathematical mechanization and played a linking role in the development of topology.

Yuan Longping (1930-2021), agronomist, was a world famous expert in hybrid rice breeding. His research on hybrid rice varieties from the 1960s to 1970s gave a boost to agricultural production, resulting in a substantial increase in grain output in both the Chinese Mainland and the world. The rice research under his lead made breakthroughs between 1970 and 2000.

This set of stamps was engraved by Hao Ou and Liu Bo and printed by Beijing Stamp Printing House Company Limited with offset intaglio printing technology. The designer was Li Chen. Each stamp is 50mm×30mm, perforated 13. A sheet consists of 16 pieces.
